Intensity is chosen and agreed upon based on our perspective.
I’ve subscribed to this perspective more times than I’d like to admit. (ahem…. last week, even 🫣) Can you relate?
The cliff notes:
- Decreasing intensity during a shift to our next era is like adjusting the level of bass on your car radio - the noise can be exciting, but also unnecessary.
- Breaking your contract with the daunting feeling of a new identity is like breaking up with a hero’s journey - you may lose a badge of honor but you gain inner peace.
- Deciding to play big with your soul journey can feel daunting, but it can also feel playful.
Shifting from daunting to playful may require a bridge.
This morning I’ve been thinking about my journey.
It’s been intense at times, and I’ve let myself fall victim to the intensity…even just in the last two months!
I often let myself fall into the illusion of the hero’s journey, claiming my badge of honor for pushing through lessons and breaking cycles with might and grit.
I realize this relates to a core belief that things are more rewarding when they are earned somehow.
In reality, playfulness was always an option, but I bought into the belief that spiritual journeys are hard…AGAIN.
I forgot a key ingredient that is optional, like the chocolate chips of a spiritual journey, but also important: playfulness.
I can think of pivotal times of my life where my spiritual journey felt daunting and this year has been one of them.
I honestly thought I was past the hard.
I thought I was on the other side of the inner work.
But, surprise, there was more to look at in order to move on to my soul’s next era.
My negative self talk returned and it felt harsher than it used to be…why? Because I’m trying to push through to trust myself radically and with an identity that felt forbidden for my entire life: a publicly advertised medium.
What if I lose credibility? What if I’m not accepted? What if I’m judged?
My biggest fear is being perceived as not having it all together.
The irony?
This phase of my spiritual journey showed me it’s my PURPOSE to show up amidst not having it all together and distilling the lessons in real time while I’m processing it.
What a trip, huh? 😅
It’s always been easier for me to shy away and retreat from the public eye while in the eye of the spiritual journey storm, but I’m learning that when one of us normalizes being in process (because we always are if we are seeking out new eras and evolvement) it frees us all from feeling shame around not having it all together.
The pressure I spoke of yesterday, let’s release the valve today with a big exhale or sigh. 😮💨
This week, I’ve tried to pivot the daunting feeling to playful energy.
When you’re playing a game you may have some uncertainty, but messing up is expected and you can laugh it off or shake it off and recover.
This week, I’ve shifted to playfulness by watching Disney movies that have spiritual themes (Frozen, Frozen II, Soul, so far) with my family, I picked up audiobooks again for the first time in a while, and I’ve started to embrace tapping (EFT) again.
Feeling like I’m in the driver’s seat while I forge ahead with a new identity that is intimidating makes it feel…less intimidating.
How can you use a bridge to move from daunting to playful?
What are you making harder than it needs to be for the sake of a badge of honor?
How can you turn down the bass a notch?
Remember, you are in the driver’s seat.
