Inspiration is a nudge and you can decide to move with the nudge or to resist the nudge. Both are valid and viable options.
The cliff notes:
- Inspiration can come from being in the zone or from present-mindedness.
- Leaning into an inspiration and running with it can be exhilarating and also intimidating.
- Receiving inspiration and maturing into it can feel organic and also nagging.
What we do with inspiration is neutral, and is entirely up to us!
Some of my clients share that they feel inspired to change their career, leave a marriage, or move to a new place…they get a nudge in a new direction, but they aren’t ready to take the leap. They sit with the inspiration and let themselves gradually align with it or discard it if it’s not theirs to pursue.
There is nothing wrong with discarding an inspiration, there will always be room for another, if you’re open to it!
Other clients I’ve supported receive an inspiration and they go full-send. They realize upon receipt that the inspiration is for them and they run with it. A big change can take adjustment, but it can also be freeing, or both!
Recently, I’ve been taking the former approach - maturing into my inspiration.
I’m taking inspiration seriously, working through the feelings and inner work associated with taking the leap, and stepping into the inspiration gradually.
In the past, I’d be inspired and act immediately, always. Idea — action… idea — action… idea — action! My approach was effective and got me to where I am today, but I also had a tendency to skip some of the details along the way.
Can you relate?
There is no right way to respond to inspiration, just the next right step for you.
What are you feeling inspired by recently? Does the nudge feel like the right next step?
The most recent nudge I acted on is recording a solo podcast.
I’m working to publish it on all major podcast applications, but for now, it’s on Spotify, yay!
I was scared, made excuses and avoided this for a while…but all of a sudden…inspiration spoke and I leapt!
What are you feeling inspired by right now? I’d love to know!
