Gone are the days of living a linear life.
With the kickoff of the digital age turned a corner to how we see and experience life, are influenced to try new ways of living, and how we can forge new eras on repeat.
The era you’re experiencing right now is likely one of many in your life.
Historically, there were four core eras of one’s life. Childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and seniority.
Life was largely mimicking the life our parents led and we forged ahead in a liner path.
Things have changed.
Having one job, one career, or one role throughout adulthood is no longer normal.
Having several hobbies and interests outside of work is now normal.
Navigating spirituality and beliefs outside of a church, while possibly still attending one, is now normal.
Times have changed.
And we can pivot, adjust, re-define our goals for life and leap to new adventures at any stage of life.
A past yoga client of mine was exceptionally good at this, and still is. She consistently tried new things just because she felt like it. In her fifties, she joined roller derby for the first time and quit to try out CrossFit. In her sixties, she jumped over to Powerlifting and to this day is still breaking world records!
I’ve navigated so many eras it’s hard to keep track. In the category of career and athletics alone I’ve jumped, skipped and hopped and always landed where I needed to next.
I had an existential crisis in college freshman year because I realized business communications wasn’t for me. I knew I wanted to directly support people and felt a misalignment with that path. My academic advisor asked me one day if I felt called to be a nun, I laughed and assured him that wasn’t quite the right path for me…but I obviously took a spiritual path of sorts since I’m writing this email to you!
Instead, I decided to be an elementary school teacher. I met the most incredible and inspiring students. My time as a teacher was short, but extremely impactful for the trajectory of my life and it helped me solidify core values and beliefs.
I leapt into adult education and learned how to manage online courses and studied instructional design. This era helped me navigate life as a teacher in a completely new way.
Each era shaped what I’m becoming and how I am evolving as a soul.
If I stayed on a linear path I would not be who I am today.
Maybe you’ve lived a similar life of several eras, or maybe you’ve chosen a more linear direction.
Even if your direction seems linear on paper, how has your journey been shaped by chapters of eras within the novel of your life?
How have your experiences shaped you on a soul level?
How have your core beliefs and values adjusted or changed throughout each era of your life?
Do you feel inspired to navigate a new era?
